There is a new App that is very close to being a Star Trek Communicator with today’s technology called Vocre. This App allows two users to have a conversation supporting 23 languages using voice recognition. This App is currently only available for Apple’s iOS products (iPhone, iPad, & iTouch). This is a very well designed App and allows the user to talk into the device and it will display the words for review, then the user can edit if needed, and with the touch of a button it will translate, and offer the recipient a chance to respond. The App is FREE (with ads), and the version without ads is only 99 cents.
This App is a great resource to parishes and schools when someone is not available for translation when needed. I know that Vocre will be useful at my local parish in working with our Latino immigrants. Catholic schools and organizations will also find this program easy to use and a good resource. The App works best in a quiet environment to be able to record the conversation accurately for translation. Check out the video below with demonstration.
